My husband the fix it man

This spring we noticed water coming out of our septic tank. It had been raining ALOT, so we decided to wait and see if all the rain was just overwhelming the system. Well at some point it stopped raining and water was still coming out and stinking. (Sorry neighbors).

When we moved into our house we had the septic tank inspected and it passed. So we called the company that did the inspection. They pumped the tank and said that the leach field was over 40 years old and they are only supposed to last 25 years and it needed to be replaced. We asked him why he didn't tell us this a year ago, he said that it was working then so it passed. Well thanks for nothing. We called around and found out that leach fields cost a ridiculous amount of money.

We called a second septic company for a second opinion. He pumped it and said something was definitely wrong, but that he could run a camera through the system to see if the leech field actually had to be replaced. We found out that there isn't actually a leech field, but a dry well and the pipe to the dry well needed to be replaced. Fortunately it was something that Brian could do. The second septic guy told Brian how to do it and gave him his cell phone number if Brian had any problems.

There was also something on the top of the tank that Brian had to fix. After he got done fixing it we had to fill the tank back up to see if it was working. About a week later when it was full, Brian went to check it and the top of the tank had a little leak. We were worried that we would have to pay to have it pumped again. But Brian called the septic guy and he told Brian to buy a hand pump and pump it down just enough to fix the leak. Brian had to hand pump about 100 gallons out, but now it is all fixed.
