The Races

Friday we went to the horse races in Saratoga Springs. Racing is a big deal here and it is said that the population triples if you include the horses that come in to the area. The races start during the kids naptime so we went towards the end of the day. We packed dinner to bring with us. The kids were super excited.

Minna proved to be a true Saratogian girl and got really worked up when the horses when by. Here the horses are coming out before the race.

Joshua was quite excited all day long and had alot of fun too. He also thought it was real fun when the horses went by and we got to stand by the fence, and he would scale the fence. We saw a few fun race hats, but in the cheap area where we were most people were dressed casually.

After a couple of races we went to the Saratoga Gaming and Raceway to watch some harness races. This place is mostly a casino so it was a little less family friendly and the kids were tired, so we only stayed for one race.
The start for the harness race was crazy, they all started going behind this truck that basically had wings sticking out the sides. Then the truck just sped up and drove away and the race began. One poor horse didn't get in gait and couldn't even keep up with the truck at the beginning. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of the start though.

The kids were entertained even after the races when the tractors would drive by to smooth out the track.

It was alot of fun and I am glad we finally made it since this is our third summer here.
