Miriam's Cut

Last night we were at soccer.  The girls were playing on the bleachers like they often do.  Well Minna pulled Miriam off a bleacher and she fell down, but was fine. That should have been warning for me to get them off the bleachers, but I didn't.  So about 2 minutes later, Miriam slipped and hit her head on one of the support beams and sliced it open.  I immediately applied pressure with my hand, and then went and got Brian who is coaching Joshua's team.  Then I got some spare pants to use as pressure, and a nice lady there had a full 1st aid kit and got me some gauze.  We then went to Urgent Care hoping that it would be faster than the emergency room.  I am not sure that it was we were there 2 1/2 hours.

The kids were really fidgety for the first 45 minutes to an hour.  There was nothing that interested them on TV.  (Trying to find something on TV reminded me why we don't pay for traditional TV).  They were hungry because they didn't eat dinner well, and I only had a couple of snacks in my bag.  Then a nurse took pity on us and brought us crackers, and applesauce, and juice. This filled them up and she also brought crayons and a small coloring book for each child.  The coloring books kept them occupied for the next hour and a half we were there.  I don't think they have ever colored so long in their life.

Well after waiting for a while the nurse practitioner came in and decided that Miriam needed staples.  She suggested just using a topical number, because Miriam would have to get as many shots of Lidocaine as she would staples and the Lidocaine would burn.  Brian stayed with her for the staples , he said two nurses held her down and the nurse practitioner stapled her skin back together.  I took the kids out so they didn't have to watch. 

By the time we got home she was tired, but didn't care about the whole experience anymore.  And this morning she woke up happy, and as far as we can tell pain free.
